How to detect brushing scams

Unordered packages are a signal, not a gift.

Why this matters

In a brushing scam, sellers post fake reviews using your name and address to game marketplaces. It often indicates that your personal data is circulating and may be exploited further.

Step by step

  1. Be suspicious of unordered packages addressed to you.
  2. Check your online shopping accounts for unfamiliar orders or reviews.
  3. Report the unsolicited packages to the marketplace involved.
  4. Change passwords and enable two-factor authentication on affected accounts.
  5. Monitor your finances for any unauthorized activity.

BlackCloak tips

Treat unexpected deliveries as a prompt to review where your data may have leaked. Remove your details from data-broker sites to reduce how easily scammers obtain them. Anyone who contacts you about an unordered parcel already knows too much. Always engage with the retailer directly, never the contact details provided.
