How to travel safely

Traveling exposes your devices and data to unfamiliar networks and physical theft. A little preparation keeps you secure on the move.

Why this matters

Public Wi-Fi, shared computers, and lost devices make travel a high-risk activity for your data. Securing your kit before you leave prevents most problems abroad.

Step by step

  1. Back up your devices and update all software before departure.
  2. Enable device encryption, screen locks and remote-wipe capability.
  3. Use a VPN on any public or hotel Wi-Fi network.
  4. Carry only the devices and data you actually need.
  5. Avoid public charging ports and use your own charger or a power bank.

BlackCloak tips

Disable auto-connect to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth so devices do not join rogue networks. Consider a separate travel phone or clean accounts when visiting higher-risk destinations.
