Real-time travel posts tell criminals where you are — and where you are not.
The scam
A tagged location, a boarding pass in a story, a family photo at the villa: each one confirms an empty home and a predictable routine. Burglars, stalkers and social engineers all read the same feed, and geotags and photo metadata say more than the caption does.
How to stay safe
Post after, not during
Share the trip once you are home. Turn off location services for camera and social apps while you travel.
Lock down who can see
Audit followers and privacy settings before the season, and keep children's accounts private by default.
"Wheels up to St. Barts." A sunset photo tagged at your villa. To the wrong audience, every post says your home is empty and shows where you are right now.
