Why this matters
Most account takeovers begin with a leaked or guessed password. A second layer of security blocks the vast majority of these attacks, even when your password is compromised.
Step by step
- Open the security settings of the account you want to protect.
- Choose two-factor or two-step verification and start setup.
- Choose an authenticator app or hardware key method over SMS where possible.
- Scan the QR code or register your key, then confirm with a test code.
- Save the backup recovery codes somewhere secure and offline.
BlackCloak tips
Avoid SMS codes for high-value accounts, as they are vulnerable to SIM-swap attacks. A physical security key offers the strongest protection for email and financial logins.
